Cymbals Eat Guitars is a band that plays out of Staten Island, New York. Their album, entitled Why There Are Mountains (read Pitchfork’s favorable review here), officially goes on sale on September 22, 2009.

As of today, they’re in the middle of a tour (dates and venues). They are playing the First Unitarian Church (shows managed by R5 Productions) on October 5, 2009 (tickets), with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and The Depreciation Guild.

Honestly, I have yet to listen to their music. So, you may be asking, why do I care that they exist, or that they are coming to Philly? Well, make the jump to find out.

I’m informed by one of my grandparents that Cymbals Eat Guitars drummer Matt Miller is—try to follow me here—the grandson of my grandfather’s first cousin. So, I’m pretty sure that makes Matt and I some kind of cousins. Small world, huh?
